Cricket Stadium Project Announced for Jeypore

Jeypore: A cricket stadium will be constructed in Jeypore city. For this purpose, 7 acres of government land has been identified. After the identification process, the proposal will be sent to the state government for approval. Following an inspection by the Sub-Collector, Akabharam Sasya Reddy, the dream of the city’s residents for a cricket stadium is set to become a reality.

The identified land is located between Gandhi Square, Satsang Bihar, and the Dongaguda Grid Substation. The final decision has been made, and the government-level process for the project will begin soon.

The state government has decided to construct cricket stadiums in all block headquarters and subdivisions. For Jaypur Block, the administration had inspected three potential locations: Ambaguda, Bariniput, and the area near Satsang Bihar. Among these, the location near Satsang Bihar was considered the most suitable by the administration.

Ambaguda is 12 km away from Jaypur town, and due to security concerns over the stadium’s high construction cost, the administration had reservations about the site. Additionally, the distance posed concerns about regular access for athletes. As a result, even though sufficient land was available at Ambaguda, the administration did not consider it a preferred location.

The administration also evaluated Bariniput, but since it is located outside the city, the site selection process did not receive approval.

Finally, the location between Gandhi Square, the canal, Satsang Bihar, and the Dongaguda Grid Substation was finalized. Since this site is within the city, it is considered the best option for both the block and the municipality. The proposal for the stadium construction will be sent to the government. The selected location is also near a bypass road, ensuring convenient transportation access.

The stadium will be situated in Lakshmanpur Mauza under Jeypore Tehsil, with land recorded under Khata No. 995. To the east lies Satsang Bihar, while to the west is the Dongaguda Power Substation.

Notably, apart from the Dussehra Ground, there is currently no public stadium in Jeypore city. The stadium within the university campus is not accessible to the general public, leading to a long-standing demand for a dedicated cricket stadium. Although delayed, the government has now decided to fulfill this demand.

Following the identification of land by Jaypur Tehsildar Sabysasali Jena, BDO Shakti Mahapatra, and Revenue Department officials, the Sub-Collector conducted an inspection and approved the site. However, as the proposal has not yet received official government approval, a formal announcement is still pending.
