Jeypore, 31st Oct 2025:  The Communist Party of India (CPI) has demanded that the guest faculty members of Vikram Dev University, Koraput, be given an immediate salary hike. The teachers have been staging a protest by blocking the main gate of the university, demanding regular and fair pay.

State executive committee member Pramod Kumar Mahanti and district secretary Ramkrishna Das visited the protest site and expressed solidarity with the agitating teachers.

The CPI strongly condemned and opposed the state government’s decision to hire retired professors on contract instead of regularizing temporary teachers who have been serving for over five years. The party criticized the government for promoting contract and outsourcing employment not only in educational institutions but across all government departments.

Labour leader Pramod Kumar Mahanti appealed to the students of Vikram Dev University to come forward and support their teachers’ demands, warning that students, too, will face similar exploitation in the future if such practices continue.

The CPI leaders announced that a memorandum of demands will be submitted to the state government, and a public awareness campaign will be launched to gather wider support for the cause.
