Nabarangpur, Nov 24:  At the District Headquarters Hospital in Nabarangpur, the District Health Committee observed World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day on Wednesday. The meeting was organized under the chairmanship of the Chief District Medical and Health Officer, Dr. Santosh Kumar Panda. The program was attended by ADPHO Dr. Sukanta Satapathy, DPET Novakishore Behera, Dr. Malay Kumar Pradhan, DIPRO Manoj Kumar Behera, Dr. Irsat Khan, various office staff, nursing college students, and officials from different government departments.

In his welcome speech, Dr. Santosh Kumar Panda said that difficulty in breathing is the first symptom of COPD. He highlighted the importance of paying attention to this and maintaining good health.

He noted that smoking and environmental pollution are major contributors to the rising incidence of COPD, which is leading to an increase in mortality and disability rates day by day. This, in turn, negatively impacts the country’s economy. Globally, about one-third of deaths are caused by this disease. Therefore, the main objective of observing this day is to create awareness among the general public about preventing smoking and environmental pollution.

Following this, students from the Government Service College, Nabarangpur, presented information via PowerPoint on the symptoms, treatment, prevention, and medications for COPD. All the students who participated in the competitions organized during the session were awarded prizes by the guests present.
