Nabarangpur, 19th Nov 2025: The long-awaited Nabarangpur bypass road construction has begun. This project is expected to relieve the public from the traffic congestion that has plagued the city for years.
The bypass will cover 9.12 km of road along National Highway-26, with an estimated cost of Rs. 168.58 crore. According to the SD Officer of the National Highway Department, the bypass road construction is expected to be completed by January 2026.
Of the five underpasses (overbridges) planned along the highway, construction has begun near Rangamatiguda and Kesriguda. Additionally, three more underpasses will be built at Daivtta, Kaiguda, and Kaiguda-Daivtta. In total, five overbridges will be constructed. The bypass road will be built over these five locations along the national highway.
The bypass will be a 4-lane road at the start and end, each segment about 300 meters long, while a portion of 8 km will be a 2-lane road. The new road will connect the city near Daivtta village, Kesriguda, the SP office area, and Patramunda village to NH-26.
Out of the total Rs. 168.58 crore, Rs. 60 crore will be spent on constructing 9 km of road. Additional allocations include Rs. 3.5 crore for tree plantation for 9,000 trees affected by land acquisition, and Rs. 90 lakh for new electricity poles and electrification. The contractor will be responsible for maintenance of the road for five years after completion.
Currently, NH-26 passes through the city of Nabarangpur for about 5 km. This stretch, particularly from Jagannath Temple to Ram Mandir, is heavily congested due to urban traffic. The new bypass is expected to significantly reduce daily traffic problems in the city.
