Delhi. 19th July 2025: The Indian National Congress has announced plans to gherao (lay siege to) the Parliament on July 21, protesting the death of student Soumyashree Bishi in Balasore. The protest will coincide with the opening day of the upcoming Parliament session, signaling a nationwide escalation of the issue.
This decision was formally announced by National Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba, who stated that the party would intensify its demand for justice and accountability in the matter. Lamba criticized the state and central governments for their “delayed and inadequate response” to the tragic incident and emphasized that the protest will highlight broader concerns regarding women’s safety and institutional negligence.
