Kolnara, 8th Nov 2025: Through self-confidence and consistent effort, Lalita Kutraka from K. Dengasagi village in Dumuriguda Panchayat, Kolnara Block, has become self-reliant. To improve her family’s financial condition, Lalita initially started marigold cultivation on a small plot of land with the help of OLM.
In 2018, she joined Nandighosha SHG in her village and took a loan of ₹30,000 to invest in marigold farming. After selling her marigolds in markets in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Andhra Pradesh, and Raipur at good prices, she earned a profit of ₹70,000. Gradually, her interest in farming grew.
On one and a half acres of land, Lalita now cultivates brinjal, ridge gourd, okra, chili, beans, potatoes, and turmeric, earning an annual income of up to ₹3.5 lakh. As a self-reliant and successful farmer, Lalita has created her own independent identity.
For her remarkable contribution to women’s empowerment, Lalita was recognized by the administration at the 2024 District Chaiti Festival. After becoming self-sufficient, she has also employed three women from her village, providing them with sustainable livelihoods.
