Community Halls in Nabarangpur: No Firm Completion Date Announced Yet

Nabarangpur, 23rd July 2025:The construction of four Urban Multipurpose Community Halls (ବହୁବିଧ ସମ୍ପ୍ରଦାୟ ଗୃହ) in Nabarangpur town is underway at a cost of ₹8 crore. Although the deadline has already passed, work is yet to be completed.

These halls are being built to serve the needs of middle-class and economically weaker sections living in the town—for hosting weddings, rituals, birthdays, and meetings.

Though the grant was sanctioned by the Housing & Urban Development Department, the construction work was assigned to the Rural Development Department. The four halls under construction are:

1. Aashirbad Kalyan Mandap (capacity: 500 people)

2. Gandhinagar Hall (capacity: 300 people)

3. Old Jail Area Hall (capacity: 300 people)

4. Dashaharapada Hall (capacity: 500 people)

Contractor Agreements:

Shubhranshu Nayak was awarded construction of Aashirbad and Gandhinagar halls for ₹3.83 crore.

Subash Sahu was assigned the other two halls for ₹4.22 crore.

These were to be handed over in May 2024, but over a year has passed, and the handover has not happened. In fact, work on Aashirbad and Gandhinagar halls was reportedly completed six months ago, yet the department has not taken them over.

Had these halls been completed on time, the people of Nabarangpur—especially the poor—could have saved on high venue rental costs for social functions.

Current Status:

Debarshi Nayak, Executive Engineer of the Rural Works Division, has now stated that the handover will be completed within the next two months.
