Commerce & Transport Minister Visits Indravati Dam: “Irrigation, Industry, and Tourism Will Be Developed”

Tentulikhunti:  The Indravati Dam, recognized as Asia’s second-largest river dam project, is set for significant development. In addition, Podagada and Kapur Dam regions will be beautified and promoted under eco-tourism, with proper facilities for visitors. This initiative is expected to boost tourism both locally and from outside the district, thereby having a positive impact on local business and the economy.

During his visit on Friday, Commerce, Transport, Mines, and Steel Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena made these commitments and highlighted the vast natural resources and potential of Nabarangpur district. He discussed the integrated development of irrigation, industry, and tourism with local representatives, the general public, and district officials.

Minister Jena visited the prominent tourist spot Indravati Dam, located under Tentulikhunti Block in Nabarangpur. He emphasized that the Indravati Reservoir region will be developed and officially recognized for eco-tourism.

He also visited the Podagada, Kapur, and Deopali dam areas. During his tour, he gathered information about the ongoing Mega Drinking Water Supply Project and held discussions with departmental officials. He reviewed the road construction work within the Indravati project area and instructed officials to ensure the work is executed properly.

In the Dangajharan village near Deopali, plans have been prepared for the development of an Eco Park on a 10-acre site. This eco-tourism initiative, with an investment of lakhs of rupees, is expected to attract tourists visiting the dam area. Additionally, the *three major dams—Deopali, Podagada, and Kapur—*will also be beautified. All necessary facilities for tourists will be arranged, and further steps will be taken for the overall development of the region. Minister Jena stated that this would not only promote regional growth but also improve the business and economic conditions of the area.

Accompanying the minister during the visit were Nabarangpur MLA Gaurishankar Majhi, District Collector Dr. Shubhankar Mahapatra, Sub-Collector Prakash Mishra, Zilla Parishad CEO Biranchi Narayan Darwan, Tentulikhunti BDO Manoj Kumar Panigrahi, and other departmental officials.
