Bhubaneswar: After the summer vacation, higher educational institutions reopened on Tuesday. Although attendance was low on the first day, the campus remained lively due to the ongoing undergraduate and postgraduate admissions. To assist incoming students, various student organizations have set up help desks, collecting basic information and providing full support with the admission process.
Last year, student union elections were not held due to time constraints and a focus on maintaining an academic environment on campuses. However, this year, the Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister have promised the return of student union elections, making it highly likely that elections will be held again in the state after 6 years.
With this in view, student groups are leaving no opportunity untouched. From the very first day, they are establishing connections with newly admitted students, offering help, and distributing membership cards during welcome sessions. They have planned events like tree plantation drives, bonding meets, and other activities to attract and engage students.
Although there is no official government announcement yet regarding student union elections in colleges and universities across the state, even the annual academic calendar has not been released. However, as in the past, there is speculation that elections may take place before the Durga Puja holidays.
