Collector Felicitated at Kotpad; Locals Raise Demand for Railway Network

Kotpad, 28th Aug 2025: During his visit to Kotpad, Koraput District Collector Manoj Satyavan Mahajan was felicitated. At the Kotpad Panchayat Samiti office, members of the Kotpad Press Club welcomed him with a bouquet.

On this occasion, the Collector was apprised about the acute shortage of fertilizers in Kotpad, the issue of black marketing by middlemen, and the need for immediate measures to stop it. Kotpad Block Development Officer Sandhya Samrath, Tahsildar Tyunkil Sethi, and Executive Officer Kamalesh Mahant were present. Press Club President Pankaj Kumar Patra, advisor Pradip Kumar Baksi, Rajkishore Rao, and Bidyutulata Bakti also attended.

In a memorandum, it was pointed out that the district still lacks a proper railway network. The tribal population of Koraput continues to remain backward in health, education, and economy. They have been demanding new railway lines for a long time. It was highlighted that new rail projects would not only bring financial gains to Indian Railways but also strengthen connectivity, transport, and industrial development in the Eastern Ghats region, especially around Semiliguda where small industries are proposed.

The memorandum also recalled that since Independence, surveys and studies have been conducted, but no effective steps have been taken to extend railway lines into the remote tribal areas. Hence, the Collector was requested to pursue the matter with higher authorities.
