Central Team Evaluates Ground Situation
The team assessed the situation and expressed that irrigation, waterway transportation, and flood control would be possible with the renovation of the coast canal, as stated by the MP. As a result, the core need for the renovation of the coast canal has been identified.
In 1866, Odisha witnessed a severe famine. During this time, people were dying like fish due to starvation. This was during British rule. At that time, the central government formed a commission for investigation, chaired by George Campbell. He submitted a report to the central government on December 6, 1867, regarding irrigation, land pathways, and waterway navigation in Odisha.
