Bhubaneswar: Keeping in view the need to improve transportation facilities for the people of the state, the Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday approved a significant proposal — the Chief Minister’s Bus Service (MBS). This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held in the evening under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Following the meeting, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja informed that under the Chief Minister’s Bus Service Scheme, a 50% fare concession will be provided to women, transgenders, students, persons with disabilities (Divyangs), and senior citizens for both air-conditioned (AC) and non-air-conditioned (non-AC) buses.
The scheme aims to provide safe, reliable, affordable, and efficient transport services across the state. All buses under the scheme will be equipped with CCTV cameras, live vehicle tracking systems, passenger information systems, and panic buttons, with special focus on the safety of women and children.
As a novel road safety measure, the buses will also include an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The scheme also focuses on creating an inclusive and integrated transportation network based on the needs of citizens and in consultation with stakeholders. Additionally, it aims to strengthen the current rural connectivity system.
