Nabarangpur, Feb, 14: A Child Marriage-Free Awareness Campaign Vehicle was flagged off through a joint initiative of the district administration and Shobha Organization.
The program was held under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain. Shobha Secretary Sanjeet Pattnaik and District Social Welfare Officer Draupadi Kahar were present and jointly flagged off the awareness vehicle.
The campaign highlights that marriage of boys below 21 years of age and girls below 18 years of age is a legal offense. The law provides for punishment of parents and other relatives involved in child marriage. Similarly, others associated with conducting such marriages can also face legal action. The awareness vehicle will travel across the district to spread this message.
The program, organized jointly by voluntary organization Shobha and the district administration, was attended by ADWO Bharat Chandra Sahu, DIPRO Manoj Kumar Behera, DCPO Suresh Kumar Pattnaik, CWC Chairperson Ajanta Shubhadarshini, Protection Officer Romi Pattnaik, Shobha Organization President Madan Kirrshani, officials of the Collector’s office, and members of Shobha.
On this occasion, a signature campaign was also launched, and all the guests signed in support of the initiative.
