New Delhi, 1st Aug 2025: As per service rules, Central Government employees are allowed to take up to 30 days of leave to care for their elderly parents or for other personal reasons. This information was provided today by Union Minister of State for Personnel, Jitendra Singh, in the Rajya Sabha.
Responding to a question on whether government employees are entitled to leave for caring for aged parents, the Minister stated that such provisions do exist.
According to the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972, a Central Government employee is entitled to:
- 30 days of earned leave annually,
- 20 days of half-pay leave,
- 8 days of casual leave, and
- 2 days of restricted holiday leave.
These leaves can be availed not only for general personal reasons but also specifically for taking care of elderly parents, the Minister clarified in a written reply.
