16th July 2025, Delhi: In a significant move to enhance the safety of train travel, the Indian Railways has taken an important decision. CCTV cameras will now be installed in train coaches for better surveillance. Around 74,000 coaches and 15,000 locomotives will be equipped with CCTV cameras. Some passenger train coaches had already been fitted with CCTV cameras earlier. After the success of the trial phase, the decision has been taken to extend CCTV coverage to all coaches. The Railways will install 4 CCTV cameras per coach and 6 cameras in each locomotive. This initiative is expected to bring remarkable improvement in passenger safety. As a result, passengers will be better protected from potential criminal activities inside trains. This decision was discussed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Railways Raunet Singh.
