Bhubaneswar: Symptoms of Type-2 diabetes are increasingly being observed among children, creating an alarming situation. In response, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued instructions to form a “Sugar Board” in every CBSE-affiliated school.

Tip: Avoid Sugar-Laden Foods

This board will take measures to monitor and control students’ blood sugar levels and conduct regular health check-ups. All principals of CBSE-affiliated schools have been directed accordingly.

The directive states that the consumption of sugary snacks, soft drinks, processed foods, and various types of fast food is a major cause of diabetes. Such sugar-rich foods not only lead to diabetes but also cause obesity in children, dental problems, indigestion, and other health issues. Persistent health problems of this nature can lead to poor academic performance over time.

Hence, to protect children, CBSE schools will establish ‘Sugar Boards’ which will educate students about the dangers of sugary foods. Children will be taught to avoid such foods and understand the risks associated with their consumption. They will be advised to stay away from junk food and cold drinks. The initiative will also include awareness on healthy food options suitable for children.

Additionally, workshops and awareness programs will be organized for students under this initiative.
