Tihidi,1st Sept 2025: In an unusual and dramatic incident, a bull climbed atop a 60-foot high water tank but was unable to come down on its own. Fire personnel initially struggled to bring it down safely. Eventually, a chain-pulling machine was used to rescue the animal.
This bizarre event took place on Thursday in Talabandh village, under Saya Panchayat in the Tihidi block of Bhadrak district. The bull had climbed onto the Basudha water tank during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. While climbing up seemed manageable for the animal, it was too scared or incapable of coming back down.
On Thursday morning, locals spotted the bull atop the water tank and informed the fire department. An initial team from the fire brigade reached the site but had to return without success due to the complexity of the rescue. Later, a specialized team arrived for the operation.
Key officials including BDO Niranjan Barik, the SDO of the Water and Sanitation Department, and mechanical engineers participated in the rescue mission. Using a manual chain-pulling machine, they climbed up the tank, tied up the bull securely, and brought it down safely.
Thousands of people had gathered at the spot to witness the rare rescue operation.
