Brahmapur: The annual Jatra of Goddess Maa Budhi Thakurani, the presiding deity of Brahmapur, is set to take place this year. In a few days, the much-awaited Thakurani Jatra will commence, and preparations for the rituals have already begun.
As per traditional customs, the initiation process has started at the “Maa Ghar” (Mother’s House) of Budhi Thakurani, which belongs to the Desi Behera family. Following the customary practices, the family has consulted the Kulapurohit (family priest) and the Siddhantis (astrologers) to determine an auspicious date for the Shubha Khunti Sthapana (auspicious post-installation ceremony), which marks the formal beginning of the festival.
According to the Jatra organizer, P. Durgaprasad Desi Behera, the date for Shubha Khunti Sthapana has been tentatively decided for either the 9th or 12th. However, after discussions with the family members, one of these dates will be finalized.
Following the Shubha Khunti Sthapana, a general meeting will be held in the evening where the Siddhantis will be present. This meeting will finalize the exact dates of the Jatra, along with discussions on the arrival of the Goddess, the festival outline, and other related arrangements.
Currently, efforts have already begun to construct Maa Budhi Thakurani’s temporary abode, with the Desi Behera family taking the initiative. Simultaneously, the renovation and transformation work of the main temple is also progressing at a rapid pace.
