Bhubaneswar, 30th Oct 2025, Primary school teachers holding a B.Ed. degree are now required to complete a six-month bridge course. Failure to complete and pass this course will result in cancellation of their appointment.
The School and Mass Education Department has taken this decision in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directive and the guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). A formal letter regarding this has been issued to all District Education Officers (DEOs).
Teachers with B.Ed. degrees who were appointed after June 28, 2018, and before August 11, 2023, must undergo this six-month online distance bridge course. The department has clearly stated that if they fail to pass the course, their appointment will be terminated.
As per the order, teachers who hold only a B.Ed. qualification and are currently teaching classes 1 to 5 in primary schools must complete this six-month continuous online course within one year. This condition applies only for maintaining their current employment.
The School and Mass Education Department has also asked for a detailed list from every district, specifying how many primary teachers have been appointed solely on the basis of a B.Ed. degree.
It is noteworthy that the bridge course includes subjects like child development and educational psychology, and similar measures have already been strictly implemented in several other states.
