Brahmapur Hosts State-Level Rural Theatre Day Celebrations

Brahmapur, 19th Aug 2025: The “Rural Theatre Day” was celebrated at Prakasham Hall, Giri Market Square, Brahmapur, organized by the senior artists’ forum “Nishul Odisha Baristha Kalakar Mahasangh”.

The event was inaugurated by senior theatre artist Rajendra Mohan Pati, who highlighted that Rural Theatre Day serves as an inspiration for local artists.

The cultural assembly, presided over by eminent playwright and stage actor Dr. Vijay Chandra Maharana, included presentations and discussions on folk culture by researchers like Dr. Bayamanu Charji.

Chief guests included Durga Prasad Acharya, Nalla Neelakantha, Balaji Prasad Samantara, and other notable figures from Koraput and surrounding districts.

President of the Mahasangh, Dr. Tiruapati Sahu, spoke about his contributions and achievements in rural theatre.

The program began with a musical performance by Abhiram Raul, followed by welcome speeches and introductions by Mahasangh General Secretary Subash Chandra Sahu.

Birthday greetings were extended to Dr. Sahu by Baladeb Sahu and Abhiram Raul.

Theatre teachers and actors from various districts, including Himanshu Dalpati, Dayanidhu Bhatra, Muna Pradhani, Mohan Kumar, Krishna Chandra Goud, and Sriram Swain, were honored with certificates, mementos, and plaques.

The event was conducted with the support of organizers including Mahendra Kumar Sahu, Chitaranjan Dalei, Sudam Pattnaik, Chandrabhanu Nayak, Deepak Kumar Pradhan, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sahu.

The celebration emphasized the promotion of folk arts and encouragement of rural artists across Odisha.
