Born Disabled but Still Waiting for Disability Pension

Tentulikhunti,13th Aug 2025: Banita Swain of Fataguda village in Lamataguda Panchayat, Tentulikhunti block, Nabarangpur district, married Ravindra Wain from Ganjam district. Ravindra works as a laborer outside the state. Their elder daughter Mamali (10) was born with a disability. She has received a 60Percent disability certificate from the government. As a result, Mamali is not eligible to receive the disability pension.

According to information, Banita and Ravindra have two daughters. Their elder daughter Mamali lives in Fataguda village. Mamali is completely bedridden since birth. She cannot move around or even sit up. Because her certificate shows only 60Percent disability, she receives a pension of only Rs 1200. Banita has requested a proper re-examination of Mamali’s disability certificate. While her husband Ravindra works as a laborer, Banita’s parental home is also in a poor condition. Therefore, they have demanded that the administration give serious attention to this issue. It is urged that the government should properly implement schemes and provide necessary assistance to people living in such pitiable conditions, especially support from their parental homes after birth.

Intellectuals have expressed hope that the government schemes will be successfully implemented. After contacting Ravindra Sahu, the concerned SEO, Mamali’s re-registration will result in an 80Percent disability certificate. Following this, Mamali will be eligible to receive the disability pension and a proper disability certificate, he said.
