Borigumma,25th Aug 2025: The Odisha government has announced the formation of 12 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) in 7 districts. However, Borigumma has once again been left out of the list, sparking strong resentment in the region.
In protest, the Borigumma Nagarika Manch has called for a 12-hour bandh on August 22. As per the decision taken at a joint meeting of local organizations—including Press Club, Chamber of Commerce, Bar Association, Mill Owners’ Association, Drivers’ Union, Truck Owners’ Association, Bus Owners’ Association, Tractor Owners’ Association, and others—shops, markets, government and private offices will remain shut during the bandh.
Borigumma Panchayat, with 24 wards and over 15,000 residents, also hosts key institutions including the SDPO’s office, court, agriculture office, NH division, irrigation, horticulture, forest, soil conservation, child development offices, banks, as well as two degree colleges and a mega project site.
For the past 15 years, the demand for NAC status has been raised repeatedly. Locals argue that Borigumma has fulfilled all necessary criteria, yet the government continues to overlook it. This has led to growing anger and calls for immediate recognition.
