Boita Bandana Celebrated with Devotion on Kartika Purnima

Kashipur: 8th Nov 2025:  On the occasion of Kartika Purnima, the Boita Bandana festival was celebrated at various places in Kashipur block. Following the Utkaliya (Odisha) maritime tradition, devotees performed rituals from early morning, including holy baths, and worshipped the boats made of banana stalks with offerings like betel leaves, guava, turmeric, sandalwood, lamps, fruits, and flowers. Large crowds gathered at ponds like Tikiri Badh, Medaribandh, and others. Devotees performed prayers and sought blessings of Lord Jagannath. There were also crowds in front of various temples. At the Jagannath Temple in Tikiri, arrangements for Annadan (food offerings) were made. The Tikiri Bhajohari Sankirtan Mandali conducted city-wide Sankirtan (devotional singing) throughout the month of Kartika.

Mukundapur: Kolanara Block, Mukundapur

In the village, a Bhagavata discourse program was held on the occasion of Kartika Purnima. Organized by the Bhagavata Tungi and the Jagannath Temple Committee, more than a hundred devotees from Mukundapur and nearby villages attended. The discourse was delivered by Santosh Kumar Mahapatra. Committee members, including Ravindra Sahu, Sadananda Sahu, Trinath Sahu, Phalguni Nalla, Lincoln Subuddhi, Niranjan Subuddhi, Sannyasi Badatya, and Bhagwan Mahapatra, helped manage the program.

Kolanara: Kartika Purnima in Kolanara

At the Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu Temple, an Ashtaprahar Naam Sankirtan (devotional chanting in eight sessions) began. During this occasion, villagers, from small children to elders, floated symbolic boats in the nearby Kolanara Nala and Triveni Sangam. Later, devotees visited the local Dhwaleshwar Temple for worship. Various Sankirtan Mandalis from different regions participated in the Ashtaprahar Naam Yajna that started early morning at the Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu Temple. Priests Neelamadhab Kar, Ashish Mishra, Preetam Kar, and Rajani Sahu performed the rituals. On Thursday morning, city-wide Sankirtan will be conducted, with local youth actively participating alongside the villagers.

Muniguda: Various Shaiva Peethas in Muniguda

At various river ghats, devotees could be seen deeply engaged in rituals. Devotional singing at the Shaiva Peethas created a pious atmosphere. Men and women offered prayers, floated symbolic boats in the sacred Bansadhara river, and participated in worship. Devotees performed rituals at Dhwaleshwar, Balunkeshwar of Kumudabali, Rameshwar of Hukumatola, Sarbeshwar of Dahikhala, Neelakantheshwar of Munikhol, Akhandleshwar of Patraguda, Siddheshwar of Ambadala, Kapileshwar of Asmabhatta, Jaleshwar of Bhaghadangiri, and Pataleshwar of Kuturupali. SDPO Santoshani IIC coordinated the Shaiva Peeth gatherings.

Kalyansing

At Kalyansing Shaiva Peeth, arrangements were made for 4,000 devotees with Annadan (food offerings) by Rao Padhi and Nageshwar Shibram. Devotees received blessings along with the food offerings.

The festival in Rayagada: The occasion was celebrated at the city’s Khel Mandir with arrangements for devotees.
