Block-Level Public Hearing Held at Tentulikhun

Tentulikhunti, 24th Sept 2025:  A block-level public hearing camp was held on Friday in the conference hall of the Tentulikhunti Panchayat Samiti in Nabarangpur district. The event was chaired by the BDO and attended by Nabarangpur Additional District Collector Biswajit Chandra Barman, BDO Manoj Panigrahi, Cluster Education Officer Sudipta Dash, Samiti Vice-Chairperson Rajendra Bisoee, former Block Chairman Narayan Patra, Assistant Engineer Gobinda Kahar, and District Social Security Inspector Baibasuta Chalan, among others.

There was discontent expressed over the absence of many panchayat representatives. The Additional District Collector remarked that no review camp can be successful unless grassroots-level public participation is effectively implemented in a democratic nation.

He emphasized that the primary goal of MGNREGA is to stop distress migration of laborers, and collective effort is needed to enhance the literacy rate by prioritizing inclusive education. He also noted that proper maintenance of seven key registers under MGNREGA is mandatory.

A critical question was raised during the hearing:
“Why are the daily action plans not being carried out according to the people’s needs?”

Concerns were also raised over several names of job card holders being removed. In response, the BDO assured that those affected would be re-linked through a quick re-verification process.

The public hearing focused on discussions around key schemes like:

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)

National Food Security Act (NFSA)

Samagra Shiksha (Inclusive Education Program)

There were complaints from panchayat representatives who claimed they were unaware of the public hearing camp. Despite the camp being scheduled well in advance for the 19th, questions were raised by the Additional District Collector as to why no proper publicity or awareness campaign was conducted beforehand.

He emphasized the need to bring improvements in future social security camps to ensure better reach and participation.
