 Korukonda, 8th Nov 2025:  A block-level Fishery and Animal Resources Fair was organized at the Korukonda Block headquarters playground under the auspices of the State Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development and hosted by the Korukonda Block Fisheries and Animal Resources Office.

Block Chairperson Jitu Burudi attended the event as the chief guest, while Dr. Gagan Charan Nayak, District Veterinary Officer of Malkangiri, presided over and conducted the program. The event was coordinated by Dr. Abinash Majhi, Block Livestock Development Officer, and Soumendu Behera, Block Assistant Fisheries Officer.

Among the dignitaries present on the dais were Dr. Rajesh Kumar Kaonra, SDVO; Muya Madkami, representative of the Malkangiri Assembly Constituency MLA; Binayak Patra, representative of the Chitrakonda MLA; Itishree Das, Assistant Fisheries Officer, Malkangiri Block; and Manasi Kar, officer in charge of the district’s “One Health” responsibility.

In their addresses, the guests emphasized the importance of integrated farming systems, the use of modern knowledge and technologies to increase productivity, and the significance of fish farming, dairy, and horticulture as sustainable livelihood options.
District Veterinary Officer Dr. Nayak called upon farmers to focus on agriculture and allied sectors to help build an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

During the ceremony, progressive farmers engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry, poultry, goat rearing, fishery, duck farming, and horticulture were felicitated with certificates, mementos, and cash awards of ₹1,000 each for their outstanding contributions. Additionally, three fish farmers received new work orders to support their upcoming projects.

Lunch was arranged for all participants, followed by a cultural program featuring performances by local school students. The event drew a large crowd of hundreds of local residents, who actively participated and interacted with officials. Attendees also discussed their concerns and suggestions regarding fish farming and livestock development, gaining valuable insights from the experts present.

To provide better veterinary care in rural areas, it was announced that a mobile veterinary ambulance would regularly visit the region, and farmers were advised to contact the toll-free helpline number 1962 for animal healthcare services.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Soumendu Behera, Assistant Fisheries Officer, Korukonda Block.
