Kundura,6th Oct 2025:  The Block Chairperson of Kundura, Puri Paraja, has resigned from her post. Today, she met Jaypur Sub-Collector and Kundura Block Development Officer (BDO) P. Manasmita, and submitted her resignation letter.

In her letter, she stated that she had been sincerely fulfilling her responsibilities as Block Chairperson for the past four years, but due to personal and family issues, she was no longer able to carry out her duties effectively. She clarified that she resigned voluntarily and not under any pressure.

Notably, Mrs. Paraja was a committee member supported by the Congress party. However, due to opposition to her autocratic style of functioning, on 7th July, five sarpanches (village heads) and three committee members, along with over 40 Congress leaders and workers, had quit the party.

Since then, her position as Chairperson had become unstable. Later, the Block Congress Committee, in a press conference, downplayed the issue as a minor misunderstanding and claimed that all representatives and workers would soon return to the party fold. However, that effort did not succeed.

On 7th August, 32 sarpanches and committee members of the block, under the leadership of Vice-Chairperson Taruni Sen, raised several allegations against the Chairperson:

Not conducting regular meetings in accordance with government guidelines, holding meetings once every 7-8 months.

Not forming Standing Committees despite rules.

Due to the lack of such committees, representatives were unable to monitor ongoing projects in the panchayats.

Preparing the annual action plan without consulting the sarpanches and committee members.

Representatives facing public anger due to lack of involvement in planning.

Not visiting any panchayats even once in her three-year tenure as Chairperson.

These representatives met Sub-Collector Sushree Reddy and submitted a no-confidence proposal, also taking an oath in support of it.

To expedite action on the no-confidence motion, they again met the Sub-Collector on 20th August and later on 30th August, citing undue delay in the process.

As a result, on 3rd September, under the supervision of the BDO, verification of the representatives’ signatures was completed, and all preparations for the no-confidence vote scheduled for tomorrow (4th October) are complete.

When asked, BDO Manasmita confirmed that official proceedings regarding the no-confidence vote had already been initiated. She said all preparations for the vote were complete and that the Chairperson had resigned today, with her resignation letter forwarded to the District Collector and Sub-Collector. Further action would be taken based on their directives.

Tehsildar Vinod Kumar Nayak, who has been assigned as Magistrate-in-charge of conducting the no-confidence vote, said he was fully prepared for tomorrow’s proceedings. He also confirmed that no directive had yet been received regarding the acceptance of the Chairperson’s resignation. Any instructions from the District Collector or Sub-Collector would be followed accordingly.
