Patna, 21st Nov 2025: After NDA’s victory in Bihar, the process of forming the government has begun. On Monday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. Following this, a BJP legislative party meeting will be held in Patna tomorrow. During the meeting, the leader will be elected. For this, BJP has appointed UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Bamba Niranjan Jyoti as observers.
After this, the NDA legislative party meeting will be held, where it is almost certain that Nitish Kumar will be elected as the leader of the NDA legislative party. After being elected, he will meet the Governor to stake claim to form the government.
Meanwhile, there are reports of a tussle between BJP and JD(U) over the position of the Speaker. According to sources, BJP wants to retain both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker positions, but JD(U) is unwilling to give the Speaker post to BJP to avoid future conflicts. There is also discussion between the two parties regarding equal sharing of power in the government.
Earlier today, a significant meeting regarding the government formation in Bihar was held at the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. Senior BJP leaders, along with JD(U) MPs Sanjay Jha and Lalan Singh, attended. During the three-hour closed-door meeting, ministerial allocation among NDA allies was discussed.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place on Thursday at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Today, Nitish Kumar and other senior officials reviewed preparations. Tomorrow, the Union Home Minister will arrive in Patna. First, he will meet Nitish Kumar at his residence, where important discussions on government formation will take place between the two leaders.
At the oath-taking ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states may attend. The new cabinet will have 36 ministers: JD(U) will have 20 ministers and BJP 16 ministers. While Chirag Paswan’s faction may get 3 ministerial posts, the groups of Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha may get one ministerial post each.
