Kotpad, 1st Aug 2025: The passenger train service between Koraput and Jagdalpur, which had been suspended since June 2nd due to a landslide caused by falling rocks in the hilly region, has now resumed, much to the relief of the public.

During the suspension period, people from Kotpad, Jeypore, Borigumma, Boipariguda, Kundura, as well as neighboring areas in Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts, faced significant hardships due to the lack of train connectivity.

Taking serious note of the situation, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) workers from the five blocks of Jeypore Subdivision—Jeypore, Borigumma, Kundura, Kotpad, and Boipariguda—held a public demonstration at Umuri Station on the 28th of last month. The protest was led by BJD State Vice President and former Minister Rabinarayan Nanda, who demanded the immediate resumption of passenger trains to Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, and Rourkela.

They had also warned that if passenger train services were not restored soon, they would block freight trains running on the same tracks. Following the demonstration, the Railway Department responded, and soon after, official notifications were issued for the resumption of train services to Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, Visakhapatnam, and Howrah from Jagdalpur, bringing much relief to the public.

On this occasion, local residents and BJD members, including Sudhur Mahanti, Biren Beshoy, Narendra Swain, Keshab Panda, Brunda Mallik, Md. Salim, Ajit Pattnaik, Arif Patel, Ishwar Rao, Gopal Lal, Pratap Sahu, Block Chairperson Kamala Bhatra, Vice Chairperson Tapan Panigrahi, Bulu Beshoy, Zilla Parishad Members Tripati Chalan and Geeta Majhi, have all expressed their gratitude to the Visakhapatnam Division of East Coast Railway and to BJD State Vice President and former Minister Rabinarayan Nanda for their efforts in restoring the service.
