17th July 2025, Jeypore: The government should provide a compensation of Rs 2 crore to the family of deceased student Soumyashree Bishi, demanded the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) during a protest and road blockade staged in Jeypore. The party activists expressed deep anguish over the alleged negligence that led to the student’s death and held the Higher Education Minister and the Chief Minister morally responsible for the incident.
As a mark of protest, the BJD workers blocked key roads, raising slogans and demanding justice for the bereaved family. They emphasized that strict accountability must be ensured and urged for resignations from the top leadership to uphold the sanctity of the education system. The party also demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident and immediate steps to improve student safety across campuses.
