Brahmapur, 28th Aug 2025: Tensions had erupted in Patisunapur village under Sunapur Panchayat of Golonthara Police Station limits over the conduct of a local festival. Even though more than three months have passed since the incident, normalcy has not yet returned to the village.
On Thursday, a delegation of BJD leaders and villagers, led by Ganjam district BJD president and former MLA Vikram Kumar Panda, met the Brahmapur SP demanding restoration of peace. They alleged that despite repeated complaints, no action has been taken against those disturbing law and order in the area.
The delegation included Chikiti Assembly candidate Shriroop Deo, BJD leader Surendra Mandal, and several villagers.
SP Dr. Sarvana Vivek M. assured the delegation that a peace committee meeting involving both groups will soon be convened and necessary steps will be taken to restore order.
It may be recalled that in April this year, a confrontation broke out between two groups over festival arrangements, prompting the imposition of Section 144 in the village. Some villagers had allegedly hurled stones and bottles at the police. Following the incident, police arrested 22 villagers, including 18 women, and forwarded them to court. The unrest had left the village nearly deserted at the time.
