Bhubaneswar: As per the government’s recommendations, a proposal has been made to increase the monthly salary of MLAs to ₹9.98 lakh and the monthly pension of former MLAs by ₹70,000. According to reliable sources, the government has given its approval in principle to the committee’s proposal. A separate bill regarding the revised salaries of MLAs and the pension hike for former MLAs is likely to be passed during the upcoming budget session.
If the bill is passed, the revised salaries and pensions will be implemented starting from the 2025–26 fiscal year.
In the forthcoming budget session, there is a strong possibility that the bill concerning the hike in MLAs’ salaries and the pension of former MLAs will be approved. Sources indicate that the government is considering doubling the current salary of MLAs and increasing the pension of former MLAs by approximately ₹70,000.
During the winter session, all MLAs had demanded an increase in their monthly salary and the pension of former MLAs. Considering the demands of both ruling and opposition members, Speaker Surama Padhy formed an advisory committee to look into the matter.
