Jeypore,16th Aug 2025: The oldest hostel of Vikramdev University — Bikramdev Hostel — will undergo repair and renovation. Registrar Maheshwar Chandra Nayak inspected both hostels and confirmed the decision.
A total of 24 boarders have been shifted to the nearby Vivekananda Hostel. The registrar said that after repair work, further decisions will be taken regarding reopening.
This afternoon, around 1 PM, Registrar Nayak along with BD Junior College Principal Captain Laxman Patra, University Finance Controller Sachin Kumar Nayak, and Physical Education Teacher Bhagabat Prasad Singh visited Bikramdev Hostel. They inspected the dilapidated condition of the premises, then visited Vivekananda Hostel, where discussions were held with teachers.
Bikramdev Hostel, established in 1907 during the reign of the local kings, has 28 rooms including the hostel office. It has long lacked basic facilities, with irregular cleaning leaving garbage piles and overgrown surroundings, causing growing dissatisfaction among boarders.
Plans are also being discussed to set up offices for the Sports Council, Examination Controller, Registrar, and Vice-Chancellor’s residence. Decisions on these will be taken later.
