New Delhi, 20th Oct 2025: If your train journey gets postponed at the last moment, cancelling a confirmed train ticket can often be a hassle. But soon, there may be some relief for passengers. Indian Railways is planning to introduce a new facility that will allow passengers to change the travel date of their confirmed tickets.
According to sources, Indian Railways is actively considering this proposal, and it may be implemented soon.
What Is the Current System?
Currently, if a passenger wants to change their journey date, they must cancel the existing ticket and book a new one. This often results in:
Additional booking charges,
Cancellation charges, and
Financial loss, especially when travel plans are cancelled unexpectedly.
What’s New in the Proposal?
Under the new system, passengers will be allowed to change the travel date of their confirmed tickets online, without any additional charges. However, this will be subject to the following conditions:
The ticket must be surrendered at the counter at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
The change will only be valid if seats are available on the new date in the same class and train.
If the fare on the new date is higher, only the fare difference will need to be paid.
No extra fee will be charged for modifying the travel date.
Passengers can also change the class of travel, if desired, without paying any penalty—only the difference in fare will be applicable.
This upcoming system could significantly benefit passengers who need flexibility in their travel plans, reducing cancellation hassles and financial loss.
