Bhubaneswar,12th Aug 2025: The state government is taking several steps to produce top athletes from Odisha and to elevate its sporting standards. As part of this initiative, a new, high-quality, world-class stadium will be built in Bhubaneswar. This project will cost around ₹1,000 crore. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced this on Sunday during the inauguration of the World Athletics Continental Tour – Bronze event at the Kalinga Stadium.
Alongside this, the government has planned to construct high-standard stadiums in 14 blocks across the state. The Chief Minister said that ₹4,124 crore has been allocated in the budget for this purpose.

On the same occasion, the Chief Minister said that hosting the World Athletics Continental Tour – Bronze event at Kalinga Stadium is a matter of pride for us. The Kalinga Stadium has already successfully hosted the Hockey World Cup twice. In the coming days too, Odisha aims to host more world-class competitions.
The government is working on sports development from the grassroots level. It is also planning on how children can receive advanced training in different sports. Organizing this Continental Tour – Bronze level competition of World Athletics is a step forward, and later, how we can successfully host silver-level and even gold-level events will be explored. The Chief Minister expressed hope that Odisha will get such opportunities in the future.
