Bharatmala Project Diversion Forces Villagers on 5 km Longer Route

Dabugaon, 25th Aug 2025:  Work on the Raipur–Visakhapatnam Bharatmala Economic Corridor has reached its final stages. However, more than 10 villages in Borigaon panchayat under Dabugaon block are facing serious transport problems after the closure of their traditional connecting road.

For decades, villagers from Mendara, Parashubeda, Gadama, Mendriguda, Khutuguda, Tapuguda, Charpatariaguda, Yadabaguda, Nitiaguda, Jenaguda, and Saitiguda had been using the Ambaguda route to access the Dabugaon block office and nearby areas. With the Bharatmala alignment passing through this stretch, the road has been closed, forcing people to travel an additional 5 km detour.

During land acquisition, compensation was paid to landowners and construction picked up speed. While overbridges and bypasses were approved in some locations to ease public movement, several crucial routes were completely blocked without alternatives, leaving locals stranded.

Residents of over 10 affected villages had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Collector and Dabugaon Tehsildar, demanding an overbridge with a bypass near Ambaguda. However, no action has been taken so far.

With the project nearing completion, villagers including Binod Santa, Satya Bishoi, Amar Santa, Devi Singh Bhatra, Haribandhu Bhatra, Dharmadev Bhatra, Baliram Bhatra, Dambaru Bhatra, Bali Bhatra, Abhiram Bishoi, Kemaraj Bishoi, Dumura Pujari, and Mana Bhatra have once again pressed for their demand.

They warned that if their demand for an overbridge and bypass at Ambaguda is not fulfilled soon, they will be compelled to launch an agitation.
