Jeypore: The Bharat Bandh had a visible impact in Jeypore, Koraput district. Various trade unions across the country called for a nationwide strike (Bharat Bandh) raising multiple demands. The protest was spearheaded by 10 central trade unions and their affiliated organizations.
The key demands include:
Opposition to the new labor policies that allegedly harm worker rights,
Repeal of the four new labor codes,
Addressing rising unemployment and inflation,
Improvement in healthcare, education, and civic amenities,
Criticism of the government for giving jobs to retired employees instead of youth.
The All India Trade Union Forum (AITUF) also supported the bandh. Over 25 crore (250 million) workers and employees across sectors like banking, insurance, road construction, and coal mining reportedly took part in the strike.
The unions accused the government of having anti-labor and anti-farmer policies, freezing recruitments, and failing to provide adequate wages and benefits. The strike was organized in protest of these issues.
