Kashipur, 19th Sept 2025: While the government is allocating crores of rupees in grants under various housing schemes to ensure that no poor person is left homeless, for many eligible beneficiaries, this dream remains unfulfilled. One such glaring example is Beturu Majhi of Dumurijhodi village in Dodapanchayat under Kashipur Block of Rayagada district.
Unless you see Beturu’s miserable condition with your own eyes, it’s hard to believe. His so-called “house” is a fragile hut made of bamboo and mud, with walls smeared with clay. In this makeshift shelter, five family members are crammed together, surviving both under the scorching sun and the star-lit sky.
Beturu’s misfortunes don’t end there. His wife passed away 12 years ago, leaving him to raise two sons and two daughters on his own, enduring immense hardship every single day.
Despite running from one official to another in pursuit of a housing allotment, his cries have fallen on deaf ears. Other than a ration card, he has received no government benefits whatsoever.
The villagers of the panchayat have demanded that Beturu be immediately included in the housing scheme and be provided with a proper home to live in.
