Malkangiri ,24th Oct 2025: The traditional 51st Kali Puja festival has begun this year at the Maa Shyama Kali temple located in Kalichhakara in Balimela town. The festival, organized by the Puja Committee, will be celebrated with great enthusiasm from the 20th to the 25th of this month.
The Puja Committee, led by President Shri Abhisekh Nayak, Vice President Shri Abhaya Prasad Nayak, General Editor Shri Pratap Kumar Swain, Joint Editor Shri Prashant Muduli, Full Moon Observer Khara, Treasurer Shri Satyajit Muduli, Executive Members Shri Manoj Kumar Nayak, Shri Bijay Kumar Das, Shri Purna Chandra Muduli, Shri Deepak Kumar Sahu, Shri Surendra Patra, and Shri Tukuna Pradhan, are putting sincere efforts to make the festival a grand success. They are also paying attention to ensure that no untoward incidents occur.
Through various cultural programs, they aim to engage the audience and create visible enthusiasm among the spectators.
Yesterday, on 20th October Monday at 10 AM, hundreds of devotees brought water from the local Chitapari river and carried out a grand Kalash Yatra (holy pot procession) around Balimela town. The holy Kalash was placed at the Maa’s mandap (shrine). Later, at midnight, the worship rituals started with a Homa Yagna (fire ritual) which concluded the following morning on the 21st.
Kalichhakara, Gopabandhu square, and other places were beautifully decorated with colorful lights and the worship of Maa was celebrated with great pomp and splendor.
Today, in front of Maa Shyama Kali’s mandap, cultural programs along with tribal dances such as Dhemsa are being performed. The audience enjoyed the celebrations by dancing to the beats.
The Puja Committee has also announced that tomorrow there will be a Bhajan (devotional songs) program and on the 23rd, a melody music program will be organized.
