Baitarani & Ib Rivers Surge as Flood Alert Issued for Odisha’s Northern Districts

Bhubaneswar, 28th July 2025:  Baitarani River Crosses Danger Mark Due to heavy rainfall, the water level of the Baitarani River is continuously rising. At Anandapur, where the danger mark is 38.360 meters, the current water level has reached 38.520 meters, surpassing the danger threshold. Meanwhile, Champa area has recorded 97.20 mm of rainfall, which is contributing to the rising water level. As a result, the Baitarani River is swelling rapidly. Similarly, the Ib River has experienced its first flood of the season. Continuous rain is causing the water level in the river to rise significantly.Due to intense rainfall in the upper catchment areas, flood-like conditions have emerged. In the town, several areas like Rani Baghicha and Gualapada are facing waterlogging.  Water has entered the PHED pump house, causing a disruption in water supply.  This situation has worsened after Chhattisgarh’s Samadma dam gates were opened, leading to further waterlogging.
