Baipariguda, 15th Oct 2025: The district administration has taken significant steps for the development of Bagra Waterfall, a small but scenic waterfall located in the Koraput district. Situated on the banks of the Kolab River, the breathtaking view of this waterfall has already made it a recognized tourist destination.

Historically, this area was once inhabited by tigers, and hence the name “Bagra”, which comes from the tribal language.

To reach the waterfall, one has to travel around 3 km from Dhauda Padar Chowk, on the road from Upper Ghatghumar of Koraput and Jeypore valley towards Kolab Dam. This tourist spot falls under Bariniput Panchayat within the Jeypore Block.

Despite its potential, the lack of proper road connectivity has been a major hurdle for attracting tourists to Bagra. Taking note of this, the Koraput District Collector, Manoj Satyabhan Mahajan, along with the Koraput Zilla Parishad Development Officer Benudhara, Jeypore BDO Shakti Sabar, Executive Engineer Mahapatra, Assistant Engineers, and Junior Engineers, visited the site to assess its current condition.

They reviewed the area near the waterfall and evaluated the necessary steps for development.

Collector Manoj Satyabhan Mahajan stated that under the Central Government’s MGNREGA Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act), the district administration is initiating development works for Bagra Waterfall to boost its tourism potential.
