Jeypore: Baghra has slowly vanished from the tourism map. It has faded not only from tourist itineraries but also from the memory of visitors, unlike other scenic spots in Koraput district. Once featured in textbooks for many years, the Baghra waterfall is now on the verge of losing its existence due to administrative neglect. However, after many years, the administration has finally turned its attention to Baghra. Over the past two months, the block administration has started development work at the site.
Baghra was once known as one of the most popular tourist and picnic spots in Koraput district. Locals say the name “Baghra” comes from the abundance of tigers that once roamed its forests. Nestled in lush green hills, Baghra features massive rock formations through which the waterfall flows. The water cascades down from a height, creating a beautiful natural sight that once drew many nature lovers.
However, after the construction of the Kolab Dam and changes in climate, the flow, volume, and speed of the waterfall began to diminish. As a result, its natural beauty started to fade.
