Nabarangpur, Dec, 22: On the second evening of the Nabarangpur District Folk Festival, the South Revenue Commissioner, Sangram Keshari Mahapatra, attended as the chief guest and described the ‘Mandei’ festival as a unique celebration. He said that the cultural traditions of the undivided Koraput region are distinct and that Mandei is the greatest mass festival of the year, highlighting its immense significance.
The guest of honor, Kamal Lochan Mishra, Executive Director of the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority, spoke about Mandei as a reflection of the region’s art, culture, and traditions. He shared that he had the opportunity to serve the “motherland” here during his three-year stay and experienced the warmth and affection of the people. He described Nabarangpur as a land rich in heritage and called Mandei a festival of brotherhood.
District and Sessions Judge Subrat Mahanti noted the district’s unique historical background, its beautiful environment, and its rich art and culture, calling it a land of freedom fighters. Presiding over the event, District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain emphasized the need to preserve and protect the district’s cultural traditions.
Zilla Parishad Chief Development Officer Biranchi Narayan Darban described Mandei as a joyful and celebratory mass festival. Another guest, M. K. K. Prasad, praised the efforts to preserve Mandei culture and said the festival inspires youth. Additional District Collector Biswajit Baman spoke about the art and culture associated with Mandei. Sub-Collector Prakash Chandra Mishra said the festival helps discover the district’s hidden talents. Additional District Collector Tapan Khuntia was also present on the dais.
District Culture Officer Ghasia Harijan delivered the vote of thanks, and all guests were felicitated. This was followed by cultural performances including Odissi dance, Jagannath Kala Kendra (Nabarangpur), Duluduli dance from Balangir, Sailodi Jamsa dance by Sonumajhi from Dabugam Block, Purushottam Kala Kendra from Nabarangpur Municipality, and the Radheshyam Ghumura dance troupe. The program was anchored by Madhumita and Abani Mishra.
