New Delhi, Jan 31:: The Central Government has taken a major decision to strengthen the financial condition of the common people. The tenure of the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), a social security scheme of the Central Government that provides social protection, has been extended until the financial year 2030–31, which is focused on economic and developmental goals.
Along with this, the Cabinet has also approved an increase in financial assistance for promotional activities and gap funding. The proposal was approved during the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to an official statement issued after the Cabinet meeting, the scheme will continue till 2030–31, and government support will be provided for awareness generation, capacity building, publicity, and other developmental activities among unorganized sector workers.
The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) was launched on May 9, 2015, by the Modi Government with the objective of providing old-age income security to workers in the unorganized sector. As of January 19, 2026, a total of 8.66 crore people have enrolled in the scheme.
Under APY, subscribers are guaranteed a minimum monthly pension ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 starting from the age of 60 years, depending on their contributions.
