Bhubaneswar,18th Aug 2025: The state is currently experiencing monsoon rains due to a low-pressure system. However, another low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal region by the evening of August 18. As a result, rainfall is expected to continue across the state till the 21st, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.
A Yellow Warning for rain has been issued for various districts on the 17th, while Orange Warnings have been issued for several districts between the 18th and 20th. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the coast, west-central, and northwest Bay of Bengal, including deep sea areas, till the 20th.
On Sunday, heavy rainfall is expected in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts.
Along with this, gusty winds at speeds of 30–40 kmph are likely, accompanied by thunderstorm activity. From the 18th, rainfall is expected to intensify, with Orange Warnings issued for Koraput and Malkangiri districts. Yellow Warnings have also been issued for some areas in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Nuapada districts, where heavy rainfall is likely.
