New Delhi: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah today participated as the chief guest at the Border Security Force (BSF) foundation ceremony and the Rustamji Memorial speech event held in New Delhi. The program was also attended by the Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Director-General of BSF, and many other dignitaries.
In his address, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the journey of the BSF from 1965 to 2025, showing how a modest organization started with limited resources in challenging circumstances has become the world’s largest and most respected border security force. He stated that the BSF serves as the best example of how patriotism can overcome all difficulties to achieve global excellence.
He praised the BSF personnel for demonstrating exceptional patriotism and dedication even in extreme conditions such as temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius or very low, dense forests, difficult mountains, or coastal areas. The BSF has earned the honor of being the first line of defense.
Shri Shah further explained that to secure each border in the country, a dedicated force was created, and based on the BSF’s strength, it was entrusted with the responsibility to secure two of the most sensitive borders—Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Recalling the important role played by Shri K.F. Rustamji in the formation of the BSF, Amit Shah mentioned that after the 1965 war, there was a need for a force that could safeguard the borders even during peace times. This led to the establishment of the BSF, with Rustamji as its first Director-General.
He emphasized that the country and Bangladesh will never forget the courage and contributions of BSF personnel during the 1971 war. Amit Shah highlighted the significant role the BSF has played in Bangladesh’s formation and its example of bravery in fighting injustice alongside armed forces.
Shri Amit Shah also stated that besides border security, the BSF actively participates in internal security, disaster management, and anti-terrorism operations, achieving commendable results.
