“Ama Bus” to Launch in Jeypore, Promising Affordable Passenger Services

Jeypore: In a recent meeting of the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), a decision was made to extend the Ama Bus service to eight cities, including Jeypor Following the government’s announcement to introduce Ama Bus in Jeypor, there is a wave of excitement among passengers. However, given the past inefficiency of the Mo Bus service between Jaypur, Koraput, and Sunabeda, there is growing debate over how effective this new plan will be.

Once the bus service is operational, special attention will be given to providing quality service and ensuring passenger safety. Each city will have a pass system, fixed speed limits, an accident monitoring committee, a toll-free helpline number, and enhanced security measures. Past incidents of financial and human loss due to accidents have led authorities to prioritize passenger safety.

Regular training will be provided to bus guides and captains on safe driving and professional behavior. Those ensuring safety and rule adherence will be identified and rewarded based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

For electric buses, the speed limit will be 35 km/h, while for diesel buses, the limit will be 40 km/h in city areas and 50 km/h on highways. Advanced cameras will be installed in the buses for monitoring. As a pilot project, ten agencies have been engaged in implementing the service in eight buses.

An accident review committee will be formed to analyze road accidents and recommend necessary measures. This committee will hold monthly meetings to provide relevant suggestions. A dedicated helpline (1800-570-0218) has been introduced for assistance or complaints related to Ama Bus. This helpline will be available from 6 AM to 10 PM.

A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be prepared for selecting bus captains, guides, and other 14 key personnel. The digital pass system, currently available in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, will now be accessible in all cities. The Ama Bus service is not affiliated with the Odisha State Transport Corporation, clarified station manager Prakash Nayak.
