Indravati, 10th Nov 2025: Due to the impact of a cyclonic storm over the district, there is a possibility of a rise in the water level of the Upper Indravati Hydroelectric Project reservoir located at Khadiguda in Tentulikhunti block. In view of the possible situation, a warning has been issued that water may be released from the Indravati reservoir at any time.
Accordingly, the Indravati Hydroelectric Project authorities are alerting people living along the Indravati riverbanks through loudspeakers. The maximum water-holding capacity of the Indravati reservoir is 642 meters, while the current level stands at 640.820 meters as of today.
People living in the downstream areas of the Indravati river have been advised not to use the river water for any purpose and to move their livestock away from the riverbanks. The authorities have also imposed a complete ban on movement in the riverbed during nighttime.
A notice has been issued by the Additional Chief Engineer of the Upper Indravati Dam Division stating that the authorities will not be held responsible for any loss or damage resulting from the violation of these instructions.
If water is released, the downstream areas — including Tentulikhunti, Nandahandi, Nabarangpur, and Kosagumuda blocks — are likely to be affected.
Currently, the reservoir holds about 89.16% of its total storage capacity. A final decision on the release of water will be taken after assessing the amount of rainfall and the inflow of water into the reservoir.
