Jeypore, Jan, 05: From the New Year, air travel between Jaipur-Bhubaneswar and Jaipur-Visakhapatnam has become more expensive. Service provider IndiGo Airlines has increased ticket fares — Jaipur-Bhubaneswar tickets have gone up byRs ₹946, while Jaipur-Visakhapatnam tickets have increased by Rs638. Travelers have expressed dissatisfaction over the fare hike from the New Year.
Koraput district, one of the remote areas of Odisha, is well-connected through air services. Since the distance between Jaipur Sadar subdivision and Bhubaneswar is around 550 km, emergency services initially included Jaipur Airport in flight plans. After the airport’s development, the government launched Bhubaneswar-Jaipur flight services in 2022.
Initially, flights with 9 seats were operated once daily between Jaipur-Bhubaneswar and Jaipur-Visakhapatnam. Considering passenger demand, from 2023, two flights per day operate between Jaipur and Bhubaneswar — in the morning and afternoon. These services have benefited government and private officials as well as ordinary travelers, who can now reach Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam in much less time.
At the start of operations, IndiGo Airlines had set the Jaipur-Bhubaneswar airfare at Rs3,674. This fare encouraged passengers from all segments to travel by air. From New Year 2026, the Bhubaneswar-Jaipur airfare has increased to ₹4,620. Similarly, Jaipur-Visakhapatnam airfare has risen from the earlier Rs2,402 to Rs3,040.
With high demand for flights to Bhubaneswar, the fare hike has caused dissatisfaction among ordinary travelers, who now hesitate to travel for important purposes. Within just two years, airfares have increased by nearly Rs1,000, which passengers find burdensome. Although the government provides subsidies to airlines under flight schemes, IndiGo Airlines has not given any explanation regarding the fare hike.
