Bhubaneswar, 26th Aug 2025: The old manual monitoring system of rural development projects will soon be replaced with modern technology. The Rural Development Department has decided to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI), drones, Google Earth Engine, and GIS tools to ensure smart monitoring of project works and assets.
Under the new system, drones will capture videos and photos of ongoing works. AI will analyze whether the construction is of required quality standards and if contractors are adhering to the agreed specifications and using proper materials.
Departmental engineers and officials will no longer need to physically visit sites for every inspection; instead, they can review project progress online from the Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. If irregularities are found, AI-powered drones will directly report them to the department.
???? Pilot Launch in March
The system will be launched on a pilot basis from March. Roads, bridges, government buildings, and other infrastructure built under the Rural Development Department will be brought under this smart monitoring mechanism.
The government expects this will ensure transparency, timely completion, and improved quality of rural projects.
???? Budgetary Support
The state has allocated ₹10,020 crore (3.5% of the budget) for rural development this year. Funds will cover the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Mukhyamantri Sadak Yojana, Setu Bandhan Yojana, and government building works.
Through these initiatives, the government aims to strengthen rural infrastructure and lay the foundation for a prosperous Odisha.
