Semiliguda: The nine-day-long festival of Goddess Agni Gangama, which began on May 11 in Semiliguda of Koraput district, concludes today, Wednesday. On Tuesday, devotees visited the goddess, offered prayers, and fulfilled their personal vows. In the evening, the ritual of city circumambulation (parikrama) of the goddess’s idol along with the fire-walking ceremony known as Nia Chakuda Parba was held. Hundreds of devotees participated in this event.

During this fiery ritual, bearers of the sacred pot (ghatadharis) walked barefoot over blazing embers, a scene that was both astonishing and spiritually uplifting. The deep faith and devotion of the devotees toward the goddess grew even stronger. As part of the circumambulation, it was reported that fire was lit in front of many households. Several such fire-walking rituals were observed at various locations dedicated to the goddess.

The main attraction of the festival was a grand road show. A variety of cultural programs were held throughout the night. The festival will conclude with the immersion (bisarjan) of the deity on Wednesday. The celebrations had originally commenced on the 11th.
